Dermatos Beach is located 64 kilometers southeast of Heraklion and just 4 kilometers east of Tsoutsouros. It is formed at the mouth of the Anapodaris River, the longest river in Crete. To the west of the river’s estuary lie salt marshes, which used to flood during winter. However, due to the construction of numerous dams in the Heraklion hinterland, the water flow has significantly decreased, and flooding no longer occurs.
The beach features pebbles on its eastern side and sand on the western side, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and solitude under the shade of tamarisk trees. The fertile plain surrounding the area is primarily cultivated with olive trees, which are a key part of the local agriculture.
Access to Dermatos Beach is very convenient, as it is located along the road that connects Keratokambos to Tsoutsouros.
